Living alone in retirement can prove to be isolating and lonely, with many challenges. Singles face financial challenges, failing health and feelings of disconnectedness as we grow older. It does provide opportunities however, for the singles to keep on learning, to manage finances and to do all the other things that they need to do to keep their lifestyle. Sometimes the things are simple, but sometimes it requires considerable work to attain. Maybe it requires big life changes, but there is help from family or others to make the changes necessary to carry on with your lifestyle. There are many changes with growing older, all of which need some type of change, as does the world around us have daily changes. Flexibility is an important part of life and continues through out life. Living at home is one part of life that can be disrupted with the passing of a partner. More than a third of the Baby Boomers are single. It means that you need to adapt, that could mean living with another, either of the same sex or the opposite sex in order to afford and maintain your lifestyle. There are many other situations that are similar to these that can make life better. I see much of this happening in real estate and housing like these situations quite often. Living alone can be expensive, so it provides an opportunity to combine resources to live more comfortable. Being able to make a unique contribution to the household will help each housemate feel needed and appreciated, as well as learning from each other can be a great bonding experience and enhance lifestyles for both.
