Almost everyone says that “location, location, location”’ are the things to look for in a home. That is true, but what does that mean? In commercial real estate it means a visible and active location that the buyer can sell their product or service. But with a retirement home it means very different things. A nice neighborhood, friendly neighbors, a well-kept area, close to shopping, hospitals, other retirees, and many more considerations, some more important to you than others. While some want to live near neighbors and we keep in touch with a wide circle of friends and family, others want to live close to family. In active adult communities and over 55 communities, it presents an opportunity to make friends of similar age and experiences.
However, if you live in a community with young and old, many of the neighbors will be at work and may not have much time to talk and chat as they are taking their children to school and other activities. If you are young at heart however you can get involved in coaching or other activities that involve youth- oriented activities. Some say it keeps you young. And what if we do not even consider stopping work as an option in retirement. We may plan to work in a different way, different hours, or even utilizing totally different skills, that you may find exciting. The notion that many retirees decide to use this opportunity to work at something that they are passionate about, and don’t want to travel far can also have a bearing on the location of the homes they buy to retire in.
